Technique for Traces

We are currently collecting trace data from Pentium and Xeon processors running Linux, Windows 95, and Windows NT. We are tracing the SPEC-CPU 2000, Ziff-Davis Winstone 95, and Bapco benchmark suites, as well as other software by request. We plan on collecting traces from Windows 98, Windows 2000, and other platforms depending on interest generated.

  • Available Address Traces
Short (5 million reference) samples of selected traces are available, but the full traces are much too large (2 GBytes) for this type of distribution. Full traces are available directly from the lab.

  • Trace Specifications
Specifications for the above available traces.

  • Technique for obtaining traces
We collect address traces from processors using a hardware monitoring technique. The original hardware was known as BACH (BYU Address Collection Hardware) and our new system is very similar except it uses off-the-shelf hardware. This system is used to collect all of the address traces distributed from our lab.
